You tend to be pessimist. At least, this is what psychologists tell us, and they should know, because they have been seriously studying the meaning of colour preference, as well as the effect that colours have on human beings. ___52___ . If you happen to love brown, you did so, as soon as you opened your eyes, or at least as soon as you could see clearly.

___53___ . A yellow room makes most people feel more cheerful and more relaxed than a dark green one; and a red dress brings warmth and cheer to the saddest winter day. ___54___ . A black bridge over the Thames River, near London, used to be the scene of more suicides(自殺) than any other bridge in the area---until it was repainted green. The number of suicide attempts immediately fell sharply. Perhaps it would have fallen even more if the bridge had been done in pink or baby blue.

21、To err is human. To blame the other guy is even more human.

Common sense is not all that common.

Why tell the truth when you can come up with a good excuse?

These three popular misquotes(戲謔的引語)are meant to be jokes, and yet they tell us a lot about hhuman nature .To err, or to make mistakes, is indeed a part of being human, but it seems that most people don’t want to accept the responsibility for the problem. Perhaps it is the natural thing to do .The original quote about human nature went like this:” To err is human, to forgive, divine(神圣的).”This saying mirrors an deal people should be forgiving of others’ mistakes. Instead, we tend to do the opposite –find someone else to pass the blame on to. However, taking responsibility for something that went wrong is a making of great maturity.

Common sense is what we call clear thought. Having common sense means having a good general plan that will make things work well, and it also means staying with the plan. Commonsense tells you that you take an umbrella out into a rainstorm, but you leave the umbrella home when you hear a weather forecast for sunshine.Common sense does not seem to be common for large organizations, because there are so many things going on that one person cannot be in charge of everything. People say that in a large company,” the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing.”

And what is wrong with a society that thinks that making up a good excuse is like creating a work of art? One of the common problems with making excuses is that people, especially young people. get the idea that it’s okay not to be totally honest all the time. There is a corollary(直接推論)to that: if good excuse is “good” even if it isn’t honest, then where is the place of the truth?

18、It's not easy being a teenager—nor is it easy being the parent of a teenager. You can make your child feel angry, hurt,or misunderstood by what you say without realizing it yourself. It is important to give your child the space he needs to grow while making him realize that you'll still be there for him when he needs you.

Expect a lot from your child, just not everything. Except for health and safety problems, such as drug use or careless driving, consider everything else open to discussion. If your child is unwilling to discuss something, don't insist he tell you what's on his mind. The more you insist, the more likely that he'll clam up. Instead, let him attempt to solve(解決)things by himself. At the same time, remind him that you're always there for him should he seek advice or help. Show respect for your teenager's privacy(隱私).Never read his mail or listen in on personal conversations. ks5u

Teach your teenager that the family phone is for the whole family. If your child talks on the family's telephone for too long, tell him he can talk for 15 minutes, but then he must stay off the phone for at least an equal period of time. This not only frees up the line so that other family members can make and receive calls, but teaches your teenager moderation(節(jié)制).Or if you are open to the idea, allow your teenager his own phone that he pays for with his own pocket money or a part?time job.

36.The main purpose of the text is to tell parents______.

A.how to get along with a teenager

B.how to respect a teenager

C.how to understand a teenager

D.how to help a teenager grow up

37.What does the phrase “clam up” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
