In the middle of January, 2008, a heavy snowfall, the most severe in the past 5 decades, struck some southern provinces of China. The bad weather lasted as long as over a month, causing more than 100 deaths and 8 missing persons. As a result, the main traffic in the affected areas came to a stop and the airports had to be closed down. What was even worse, water and power supplies were cut off in some cities, which had a bad effect on the people’s life.
