The great ship, the Titanic, sailed for New York from Southampton on April 10th, 1912.She was 1 1316 passengers and a crew (船員) of 891.At that time, however, she was not only the largest ship that had ever been built, but was considered to be unsinkable, 2 she had 16 watertight compartments (密封艙).Even if two of these were flooded, she would still be able to float.The sad sinking of this great ship will always be remembered, for she went down on her first voyage (航程) with a 3 loss of life.
