After watching my mother deal with our family of five, I can’t understand why her answer to the question, “What do you do?” is always, “Oh, I’m just a housewife.” JUST a housewife? Anyone who spends most of her time in meal preparation and cleanup, keeping the house clean, attending PTA meetings, leading a scout troop, playing taxi driver to us kids when it’s time for school, musical lessons or the dentist, doing volunteer work for her community is not just a housewife. She’s the real Wonder Woman.
Why is it that so many mothers like mine regard themselves as second-class citizens or something similar? Where has this notion come from? Has our society made “going to work” outside the house more important than what a housewife must face each day? I would be curious to see what would happen if a housewife went on strike.Dishes would pile up and food in the house would run out. There would be no clean towels when needed.Walking and bus riding would increase.
I doubt if the man of the house would be able to take over.Oh, he would probably start out with the attitude that he can do just as good a job, but how long would that last? Not long, once he had to come home each night after work to more housework. There would be no coming home to a prepared meal; The kids would all be screaming for something to eat, clean clothes and more bus fare money.Once he quieted the kids, he’d have to clean the house, go shopping, make sure that kids got a bath, after cleaning out all the dog hairs from the bathtub.Once the kids were down for the night, he might be able to crawl(爬) into an unmade bed and try to read the morning newspaper.
64.What does the writer’s mother NOT do according to the first paragraph?
A.Cooking. B.Tidying the house. C.Driving a taxi. D.Some unpaid work.
65.The underlined word “notion” in the second paragraph can be replaced by the word______.
A.mother B.citizen C.similarity D.thought
66.We can learn from the second paragraph ______.
A.mothers are actually great women B.our society looks down upon housewives
C.housewives should go on a strike D.doing housework is not important at all
67.The possible main idea of the third paragraph is _______.
A.men should share housework with their wives
B.a(chǎn)ttitude is not the only thing needed to do a job well
C.kids are the most challenging part of the housework
D.men are unlikely to handle the work of a housewife

Dr.Ferguson energetically pushed the preparations for his departure, and in person directed the construction of his balloon. For a long time past he had been applying himself to the study of the Arab language and the various Mandingoe idioms, and, thanks to his talents in language,he had made rapid progress.

In the meanwhile, his friend, the sportsman, never let him out of
his sight-afraid,no doubt, that the doctor might take his departure, without saying a word to anybody. On this subject,he tried to discourage him with the most persuasive arguments, which, however, did NOT persuade Samuel Ferguson, and wasted his breath,by which the latter seemed to be but slightly moved. In fine,Dick felt that the doctor was slipping through his fingers.
? The poor Scot was really to be pitied. He could not look upon the
blue sky without a wild terror: when asleep,he felt dizziness(眩暈)that made his head turn around;and every night he had visions of crashing down from immeasurable heights.
We must add that, during these nightmares,he once or twice fell out of bed. His first care then was to show Ferguson a severe bump(腫塊)that he had received on the fall.“And yet,”he
would add, with warmth,“that was at the height of only three feet一not an inch more一and such a bump as this! Only think, then!”
This appeal, full of sad meaning as it was,did not seem to touch the doctor's heart. Not even the shadow of a doubt was ever suggested;and Samuel made an intolerable misuse of the first person plural:“‘Our’balloon,‘our’ car ;‘our’expedition.”
???? Dick trembled at them, although he was determined not to go ; he did not want to annoy his friend.Let us also disclose the fact that, without knowing exactly why himself,he had sent to Edinburgh for a certain selection of heavy clothing, and his best hunting-tools and fire-arms.

A.To keep himself occupied.
B.To get ready for the departure.

For years I wanted a flower garden.I’d spend hours thinking of different things I could plant that would look nice together.
But then we had Matthew. And Marvin. And the twins, Alisa and Alan. And then Helen.Five children.I was too busy raising them to grow a garden.
Money was tight, as well as time.Often when my children were little, one of them would want something that cost too much, and I’d have to say, " Do you see a money tree outside? Money doesn’t grow on trees, you know."
Finally, all five got through high school and college and were off on their own.I started thinking again about having a garden.
I wasn’t sure, though.I mean, gardens do cost money, and after all these years I was used to living on a pretty lean, no - frills budget.
Then, one spring morning, on Mother's Day, I was working in my kitchen.Suddenly, I realized that cars were tooting their horns as they drove by.I looked out of the window and there was a new tree, planted right in my yard.I thought it must be a weeping willow, because I saw things blowing around on all its branches. Then I put my glasses on—and I couldn’t believe what I saw. There was a money tree in my yard !
I went outside to look.It was true! There were dollar bills, one hundred of them, taped all over that tree.Think of all the garden flowers I could buy with one hundred dollars! There was also a note attached: "IOU eight hours of digging time.Love, Marvin."
Marvin kept his promise, too.He dug up a nice ten - by - fifteen foot bed for me.And my other children bought me tools, ornaments, a trellis (棚架) , a sunflower stepping stone and gardening books.
That was three years ago.My garden’s now very pretty, just like I wanted. When I go out and weed or tend my flowers, I dont seem to miss my children as much as I once did.It feels like they’re right there with me.
I live up in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, where winters are long and cold, and summers are too short. But every year now, when winter sets in, I look out of my window and think of the flowers.I’ll see next spring in my little garden.I think about what my children did for me, and I get tears in my eyes—every time.
I’m still not sure that money grows on trees. But I know love does!
60.By saying "Do you see a money tree outside……, "the mother actually means "__________".
A.Observation is the best teacher B.Seeing is believing.
C.The outsider sees the most of the game D.It is not easy to gain money
61.The best title for the passage would probably be_______________ .
A.My flower garden B.Marvin helps to realize my dream
C.Love in Michigan D.Money grows on trees
62.The underlined word "no-frills" in the fifth paragraph is similar in meaning to ____.
A.wasteful B.tight C.a(chǎn)bsurd D.helpful
63.From the last but the third paragraph we can infer that the mother is ________________.
A.divorced when she was young B.not caring for her kids any longer
C.a(chǎn)lone but not at all lonely D.prouder
