Travel
by Bike in the City
In this passage,
the writer explains the advantages and disadvantages of owning private cars in
the city. And he agrees to enlarge the private car market and make better use
of them.
But I think bikes should be the most popular form
of transportation in our city.
First, a bike is much cheaper than a car,
most consumers can afford it, and if there is something wrong with a bike,
people can have it fixed easily. Second, bikes need much less parking space
than cars. The third reason is that it can save energy for our
country. Moreover, it brings no pollution to
the air, so it helps to clean the atmosphere.
Therefore, the best
form of transportation is
travelling by bike ,which is a healthy, “green” and economical way. But with
the development of our economy, the day when we use cars as the most popular
form of transportation is sure to come.

In 1948, gold was found in California, from all of nation, thousands of young man
set out for California,
while searching for gold, these men found their pants torn easily, due to the
rough work of mining. One gold miner came into a city looking for a pair of
pants. He wants the pants strong enough to stand up to the rough work. He met a
young man named Levi, who sold heavy cloth for tents, Levi asked his brothers
to send him some strong blue cotton cloth, with this cloth, Levi started making
the strong working pants that we call blue jeans today. A few years later, a
miner said the pockets were not strong enough to hold pieces of gold he found. The
pockets were always torn away from the pants, the cloth was all right. But the
threat wasn’t strong enough. So Levi uses rivets to fasten the pockets onto the
pants. Then everybody was happy, as the pants were really strong and suitable

W: What a beautiful places! But can we afford
it?
M: I
wanted the best restaurant for your birthday. And since you like the art of French
cooking here we are! Let’s begin with a cocktail and then look at the menu.
W: I’m
going to start looking right away because it always takes me a year to make up
my mind on things to eat. Any advice?
M: You’ve
never been there before, but everything is supposed to be excellent.
W: Look! They
have snails! But I wouldn’t dare eat them. They might make me sick.
M: I feel
the same way about snails. I think I’ll have roast duck. It comes with vegetables
and potatoes.
W: Sounds
good, but since I love seafood, I’m going to have the fish, and let’s have the
salad after the entree, the way the French do!
M: Fine. We
should have white wine with dinner and dessert since this is a celebration.
W: Oh,
and let’s not forget the cheese. There’s nothing like real French cheese.
M: I can
see already that this is going to be an enjoyable and delicious evening.

Pandas are one of the most precious animals in the world. They live
only in a small area in the mountains of South-western China.
There are only 500 ? 1,000 pandas in the
wild and the number is falling down all the time. There are about 100 more in
zoos and research stations.
Although they are protected, pandas are
still killed for their skins. Because their skins are very valuable.
Pandas live in mountain forests, and can only eat bamboo. As the
place they live in is getting smaller and smaller, pandas are in danger of
dying from lack of suitable food.
Zoos are making efforts to raise and
produce pandas, but this is very difficult. Also, baby pandas weigh only 100
grams at birth, so they need to be looked after very carefully. Since 1963
about 50 baby pandas have been born in zoos, and around half of them are still
alive today.
