Everyone has got two personalities (性格) —the one that is shown to the world and the other that is secret and real. You don’t show your secret personality when you’re awake because you can control yourself, but when you’re asleep, your sleeping position shows the real you. In a normal night, of course, you often change your sleeping positions. The important position that best shows your secret personality is the one that you go to sleep.
If you go to sleep on your back, you’re a very open person. You normally trust people and you are easily influenced by new ideas. You don’t like to make people unhappy, so you never express your real feelings. You’re quite shy and you aren’t very confident.
If you sleep on your stomach, you are a person who likes to keep secrets. You worry a lot and you’re always easily becoming sad. You never want to change your ideas, but you are satisfied with your life the way it is. You usually live for today not for tomorrow.
If you sleep on curled up (蜷縮), you are probably a very nervous person. You have a low opinion of yourself and often protect yourself from being hurt, so you are very defensive. You’re shy and you don’t usually like meeting people. You like to be on your own.
If you sleep on your side, you have usually got a well-balanced (平衡的) personality. You know your strengths and weaknesses. You’re usually careful. You have a confident personality. Jane Goodall is one of the most well-known scientists in the world. Much of the information we have today about chimpanzees comes from the research of Jane Goodall.
Jane Goodall was born in London in 1934. She became interested in animals and animal stories when she was a very young child. She always dreamed of working with wild animals. When she was eleven years old, she decided that she wanted to go to Africa to live with and write about animals. But this was not the kind of thing young women usually did in the 1940s. Everybody was laughing except her mother. “If you really want something, you work hard, you take advantage of opportunity, you never give up, you find a way,” her mother said to her. The opportunity came at last. A school friend invited her to Africa. Jane worked as a waitress until she had got enough money to travel there.
In 1957, Jane Goodall traveled to Africa. She soon met the well-known scientist Louis Leakey and began working for him as an assistant. He later asked her to study a group of chimpanzees living by a lake in Tanzania. Very little was known about wild chimpanzees at that time.
Jane spent many years studying chimpanzees in this area of Africa. It was not easy work. They were very shy and would run away whenever she came near. She learned to watch them from far away using binoculars. Over time, she slowly gained their trust(信任). She gave the chimpanzees human names such as David Graybeard, Flo and Fifi. Watching the chimpanzees, she made many discoveries. They ate vegetables and fruits. But she found that they also eat meat. A few weeks later, she made an even more surprising discovery. She saw chimpanzees making and using tools(工具) to help them catch insects.
Jane Goodall has written many books for adults and children about wild chimpanzees. Her most recent book is called Hope for Animals and Their World. It tells about saving several kinds of endangered animals.

Your daughter has finally reached the age of 18, and you think perhaps your job will finally get a little easier. That could be wrong thinking - as the parent of any 18-year-old will tell you. Learning to cope with an ungrateful 18-year-old daughter takes patience, understanding and time.
_______ When she was a little girl, she wanted you to be involved(參和) in everything of her life from her daily activities to her friends. This is' no longer the case. She's a grown woman who needs her own personal life. Comment(評論) on her choices only when asked to do so - especially if you want to say no to her.
Allow her to make mistakes. No parent wants to see his or her child fall, but the days of protecting her all the time are at an end. Unless(除非) you see a train coming, let her fall when she makes poor choices. It will enable her to grow past the ungrateful "know it all" stage.
Encourage dialogue whenever you can, rather than planning talks. She's more likely to open up to you when talking over something trivial (瑣碎的). Anytime she wants to talk, become a willing listener in the conversation. You never know when a deeper, more important conversation will develop.

Our spiritual intelligence quotient, SQ (精神智商)helps us understand ourselves and live fuller, happier lives.
While we’re all born with SQ, most of us even don’t know that we have it. Luckily, you don’t have to sign up for classes to learn how to enhance(加強) your SQ. Here are some simple steps that can lead you to this new level of understanding:
Sit Quietly. The step of developing SQ begins in solitude (獨處) and silence. To tune in to its whisper, you have to keep away from your busy, noisy, complicated life and make yourself do nothing at all. At home, for example, shut the door of your bedroom, take a few deep breaths and let them out very, very slowly.
Step Outside. For many people, nature makes their spirit free. Go outside to watch a beautiful sunset. Follow the flight of a bird; watch clouds floating overhead.
Find An Activity You Enjoy. It’s important to find a hobby that helps you tune in to your spirit. Garden, walk or jog, arrange flowers, listen to music that touches your soul.
Ask Questions Of Yourself. Some people use their thoughtful time to focus on scriptures (經文). Others ask open-ended (無確定答案的) questions, such as “What am I feeling? What are my choices?” But don’t expect an answer to arrive through some super-natural form of e-mail. Later that day you’ll suddenly find yourself thinking about a problem from a perspective (角度) you never considered before.
Trust Your Spirit. While most of us rely on gut feelings (直覺) to warn us of danger, SQ usually nudges (漸漸推動) us, not away from, but toward some action that will lead to a greater good.
1.To enhance your SQ, you should first _______________.
A. stand loneliness and silence
B. make your life simpler and less busy
C. give up the daily things in your life
D. listen more to your whisper
2.The underlined phrase “tune in to your spirit” in the fifth paragraph probably means ________________.
A. get your spirit relaxed B. keep up your spirit
C. listen to your spirit D. change your spirit
3. What will happen after people ask questions of themselves?
A. People will lead to a greater good.
B. People will think about a problem in a different way.
C. People will expect answers through e-mails.
D. People will keep away from their busy life.
4. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Advantages and disadvantages of SQ
B. The relationship between your SQ and you
C. What SQ is and in what ways it can be improved
D. What SQ is and in what ways you can make your life easier

People are always afraid of making mistakes. But sometimes it’s not bad to make mistakes, and here is why.
At first, a mistake is a clear sign that you are trying new things. It’s always good to try new things, because when you are trying new things, you are growing. If you never try new things, how can you improve? How can you create? The simple answer is: “you can’t” Look around you, everything you see is the result of someone trying new things.
Another good thing about mistakes is this: when you are making mistakes, you are learning. For example, Edison failed 10,000 times before he invented the light bulb. When he was asked how he felt to fail that many times, he said that he hadn’t failed 10,000 times, but rather had learned 10,000 things that didn’t work.
Finally, when you make a mistake, you are much closer to success. Why? Because you have said what you should say, and you have done what you should do. Every time you make a mistake, you are closer to success. But it doesn’t mean that you can make mistakes without thinking. Instead, when you try new things you have to think them over, so that you can keep away from some unnecessary mistakes. We shouldn’t spend all our time and money on the only one way, but use them correctly, because our time and money are limited(有限的)
There is an old saying, “if you are not making mistakes, you are not trying hard enough.” So go bravely and make mistakes. And learn, and grow, and succeed.
1.If you are making a mistake, that means__________.
A. you’re careful B. you’re kind
C. you’re growing D. you know nothing
2.If you never try new things, you can’t___________.
A. improve B. create C. spend D. A and B
3. After Edison failed 10,000 times, he__________.
A. gave up B. invented the light bulb
C. invented the computer D. invented 10,000 new things
4.When you make a mistake, you are closer to___________.
A. time B. money C. success D. new things
5. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A. Never make mistakes
B. You can make mistakes without thinking
C. Sometimes it’s good to make mistakes
D. Making mistakes is terrible
