The ball struck the bat and flew high, above the infield. I gasped (倒抽氣). Oh my gosh, it's heading for Mitzi, Mitzi will never catch it. I don't think she has ever caught a fly ball in her life. I wish Coach Jim wouldn't have put her into the game. I know it's the rule that all girls play, but 1 want to win. Mitzi just wants to have fun playing softball (壘球).I wish she hadn't joined our team.
So far we've won nine games. If we win this one, we' 11 have won- all of our games and be the champions, Oh, gosh, look at Coach Jim. He's standing up and watching the flight of the ball too and I bet he's thinking the same thing that I am. If Mitzi doesn't catch it, the other team will score and the game will be over. I've got a sick feeling in my stomach. I can't look, but I have to. Look at her. She has her glove down by her side and she's moving around.
Now the ball is starting to come down. Mitzi isn't moving anymore and she isn't back far enough. It's going over her head. I can hear our coach yelling from the bench. Back up Mitzi. Back up. Oh, God, I want to win this game so bad. Please let Mitzi catch the ball.
It's there. The ball has slammed into her glove and Mitzi’s arm is back over her shoulder. I'm closing my eyes. I can't look anymore.
It’s that? I hear a yell and then another one. I don' t want to look. It must be the girls on the other team yelling. But that sounds like Mitzi yelling. I ’ m going to peek (偷看).Mitzi is jumping up and down with her glove held high above her head and sticking out of the top of her glove, like an ice cream in a cone (圓錐體), is the softball. Mitzi caught the ball. We're the champions.
Mitzi, Mitzi. That was a great catch. I'm so glad you're playing on our team.

Today I spent my first Father's Day as a father. My wife worked hard to make the day special and it started when she made me a nice breakfast. Then we spent the morning at church and then went out for a nice lunch at a place where I'd been longing to go for a while. The afternoon was spent at the pool eating ice cream and cookie cake.
I've become a dad, so what does Father's Day mean to me now? Well, I guess the day is really about appreciating my dad. I'd say the last 10 months saw all the hard work my parents did for my son. They have to work even harder now as my son Sawyer is moving around and getting into everything.
I've always appreciated the hard work my dad did, though I seldom talked about it. I come from many generations of blue-collar workers and three generations of workers of Ford Motor Company. My dad spent more than thirty years working at Ford and is still working for a city water department. I recall he would sometimes work seven days a week and sometimes until midnight. He seems to enjoy working with his hands and is good at cars and fixing things. I'm not nearly as good at cars as my dad. I spent one night working a midnight shift at an M&M factory and decided never to do it again.
Growing up I didn't have to worry about whether I'd have food to eat and now I still call my dad whenever my car makes a funny sound. Some of my sweetest memories are wrestling with my dad, and driving with him in his truck to Grandpa's with the windows down.
Thanks for working hard all those years and taking care of us, Dad.
54. What is Paragraph 1 mainly about?
A. Why the author likes celebrating Father's Day.
B. What the author's wife wanted him to do on Father's Day.
C. How the author should have celebrated Father's Day.
D. How the author spent his first Father's Day as a father.
55. We can infer from Paragraph 2 that ________.
A. the author is too busy to look after his son
B. the author's parents help look after his little son
C. the author doesn't know what Father's Day really means
D. the author doesn't think looking after his son is a hard job
56. In Paragraph 3, the author mainly wants to tell us that ________.
A. He had a very difficult childhood
B. His dad is really good at repairing cars
C. His dad really deserves his appreciation
D. His dad should have changed his job
57. When the author was young, he ________.
A. was interested in fixing cars
B. felt the happiest at his grandpa's
C. sometimes suffered from hunger
D. had some great time with his father

Homemade Ice Cream in a Bag
Difficulty: Very Easy
Average User Rating:★★★★☆(4.3/5)
Milk can become homemade ice cream in five minutes by using a bag! This homemade, creamy treat is a summertime delight for your kids and you alike.
What you’ll need:
1 tablespoon of sugar; 1/2 cup of milk; 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla (香草香精); 6 tablespoons of rock salt; 1 small-sized plastic food storage bag; 1 gallon-sized plastic food storage bag; ice cubes.
How to make it:
l Fill the large bag half full of ice, and add the rock salt. Seal the bag.
l Put milk, vanilla, and sugar into the small bag, and seal it.
l Place the small bag inside the large one, and seal it again carefully.
l Shake until the mixture turns into ice cream, which takes about five minutes.
l Wipe the top of the small bag, and then open it carefully. Enjoy!
Tips:
1/2 cup of milk will make about one spoon of ice cream, so double the recipe if you want more. But don’t increase the amount more than that—a large amount might be too big for kids to pick up because the ice itself is heavy.
Here is another version of the homemade ice cream recipe from another parent!
These are the homemade ice cream ingredients:
1/4 teaspoon of vanilla butter and nuts; 1 tablespoon of sugar; 1/2 cup of milk.
These are the other supplies:
Plastic sandwich bag; 12 salt pellets; 1 dish of ice; large plastic bag.
Put the ice cream ingredients in the small bag, and then put the bag, salt and ice in the big bag. Hold the bag shut and move it around on the floor for about 5 minutes.
When I made ice cream at home last time, although the salt pellets didn’t really dissolve (溶解) that well, I still got ice cream. It was not smooth ice cream, probably because of the low-fat milk. It was incredible that it could be ready in 5 minutes (not counting preparing the ingredients)
Next, I changed the recipe, using a tablespoon of cocoa, a tablespoon of sugar, and a cup of milk. It was a bit too chocolaty, but good!
【小題1】The underlined “that” in “Tips” section refers to ____.
| A.1/2 cup of milk | B.1 cup of milk |

| A.He/ She doesn’t agree with the first parent. |

| C.He/ She doesn’t like cocoa better than nuts. |
| D.He/ She doesn’t think the chocolaty tastes bad. |

1.The underlined “that” in “Tips” section refers to ____.
A.1/2 cup of milk B.1 cup of milk
C.1 spoon of ice cream D.2 spoons of ice cream
2.Which of the following things is NOT included in both recipes?
A.Sugar B.Ice C.Plastic bag D.Nuts
3.Which of the following statements about the second parent is TRUE?
A.He/ She doesn’t agree with the first parent.
B.He/ She doesn’t think five minutes is enough
C.He/ She doesn’t like cocoa better than nuts.
D.He/ She doesn’t think the chocolaty tastes bad.

Humans not only love eating ice cream, they enjoy feeding it to their pets. Market studies show that two thirds of all dog owners give ice cream to their dogs. Unfortunately, says William Tyznik, an expert on animal nutrition (營(yíng)養(yǎng)) at Ohio State University, ice cream is not good for dogs. “It has milk sugar in it,” He says,“which dogs cannot digest very well. ”
Bothered (拓?cái)_) by that knowledge but aware (having idea) of the desire of dog owners to please their companions, Tyznik invented a new frozen treat for dogs that, he says, in more nutritious that ice cream-and as much fun to eat. The product, called Frosty Paws, is made of a liquid byproduct(副產(chǎn)品) of cheese and milk with the sugar removed. Frosty Paws also contains refined soy flour, water, vegetable oil, vitamins and minerals. It took Tyznic, who has also invented a horse food (called Tizwhiz) and another dog food (named Tizbits), three years to perfect the Frosty Paws formula, and two attempts, to commercialize it. After losing $ 25,000 trying to market the invention himself, Tyznik sold the rights to Associated Ice Cream of Westerville. Ohio, which makes the product and packages it in cups.
Tyznik claims that Frosty Paws has been tested extensively and that “dogs love it. ”O(jiān)f , 1,400 dogs that have been offered the product, he says, 89 percent took it on the first try. Three out of four preferred it to Mild-Bone or sausages. The ■section of supermarkets, comes in packs of three or four cups ,costing between $ 1.39 and $ 1.79.
What would happen if a human should mistake Frosty Paws for real ice cream? Nothing says Tyznik. It's harmless , but frankly , he says , it won's taste very good.
