Here is an e-mail from Simon's e-friend Mike. Read it and try to find what Mike's problem is and then complete the exercises after it. Choose the correct answers.
Dear Simon
How are you recently? I've not received your letter for nearly a month. I hope everything goes well with you.
I have moved into a new house. But I don't feel happy about it. Because my parents have suddenly become very serious about cleaning. They want me to be very diligent about cleaning my room. I have to make the bed every day. I have to put all of my things away before l go to bed every evening.
When we lived in the old house, life was more relaxed and my parents weren't so strict about cleaning. I could leave all my books and toys all over the house. I was free at that time. I prefer my life in the old house.
My parents say that a clean house is a comfortable house. Do you agree with them?
Regards
Mike

Nearly every parent says that we never grow up. In fact, we are maybe 16 or 17 years old. In their eyes, we are always little ones and always do wrong things. For example, when I need to stay at home, alone, they always worry about me and my life without them.
Most parents always think that they have offered the best things they can to make their children live in a comfortable world. They buy their children pretty clothes, cool shoes, strange but expensive school things, and always a thousand-yuan-cost bike. They think that they have done everything they can to their dear little children. In return, they only want their little ones give them good results in the examinations. But why their little babies still can’t understand them? Why? Does it mean that they still want more material things? No. As a matter of fact, what they want is a true family. What does a true family mean? I think it means a place where we can hide ourselves from the outside cold world. From here, we can get warmth, we can get consolation(安慰), and we can get happiness. And one important thing is that we should be stronger and more confident in the outside world because we know that we have a family.
So I think that parents should save their money and sit down to talk with their child to let them know that they have a true family, so the child and his parents could understand each other better and better. Then, no one will be regarded as a little child.
86. What are we always like in our parents’ eyes?__________________________________
87 What do parents expect(期待) all of us when they give us so much?_________________

89. What can we get from a true family?__________________________________________

A rabbit is running into his hole. You may ask, “What happened?”
Well, when a rabbit sees something dangerous, it runs away. Its tail moves up and down as it runs. When other rabbits see this tail moving up and down, they ran, too. They know there is danger. The rabbit has told them something without making a sound. It has given them a signal.
Many other animals use this kind of language. When a bee finds some food, it goes back to his home. It can’t tell the other bees where the food is by speaking to them, but it does dance in the air. This tells the bees where the food is.
But animals say things by making sounds. A dog barks, for examples, when a stranger comes near. A cat purrs(發(fā)出呼嚕呼嚕的聲音) when pleased. Some birds make several different sounds, each with its own meaning.
But human beings have something that no animals have---- a large number of words about things, actions, feelings or ideas. We are able to give each other information to tell or inform other people what is in our mind or how we feel. By writing words down we can remind ourselves of the things that have happened, or send messages to people far away. No animals can do this. No animals has the wonderful power of language.
No one knows how man learned to make words. Somehow he learned to make them. As centuries went by, he made more and more new words. This is what we mean by language.
People in different countries made different kinds of words. Today there are about fifteen hundred different languages in the world. A very large English dictionary, for examples, contains four or five hundred thousand words. But we don’t know all these. The words we know are called vocabulary. We should try to make our vocabulary larger. Read as many books as possible. When we met a new word, look it up in the dictionary. A dictionary is the most useful book.
