Although cellphones can help us a lot, we must think of others when we use them. Unfortunately, some people do not consider others when using their cellphones. In their opinion, cellphone users shouldn’t disturb others when they make a call.
Then how to use a cellphone politely in public? The following rules will help you. When you’re in a meeting, watching a movie or having a lesson, you’d better turn off your cellphone. When you get a call and you’re with friends, try to make the call as short as you can. Did you know that each day one person in the US throws away 4.4 pounds of rubbish? Almost every month, we throw away our own rubbish in packaging alone. Packaging ( including boxes, bags, etc) comes to our homes with the things we have bought. Several weeks ago, the TV news said that in a city in Italy tons of rubbish were piled up in the streets, and the smell was rather terrible. What can we do to help? We should get to know the following Rs.

Reduce  To reduce means to make less rubbish. That is one of the first things we all should do for the environment. Reduce your rubbish by doing things like packing your lunch in reusable containers(可在利用的容器), taking smaller potions(份) at dinner so you don’t waste food when you have had enough, writing on both sides of paper, and using less water when taking a shower.

Reuse   To reuse is to use things again. Think about the bags you get from the store. They can be reused to carry your lunch, to hold your rubbish, or to collect used cans. You can even take them back to the store the next time to carry your things instead of getting a new bag!

Recycle (回收利用)  Recycling is an important part of keeping our planet clean and green. It can also save energy. Be sure that you don’t throw things in the rubbish that can be recycled to make something else. Paper, plastic, cans and bottles can all be recycled, but food, electrical waste and mobile phones can’t. When you are not sure whether something can be recycled, go to your parents and teachers for advice.

Follow the three Rs, and every one of us can do something to save the earth. It is also the best way to save ourselves.

Napping(小睡) after learning something new could help improve your memory--- as long as you dream, scientists say.

They found people who dream about a new task do it better on waking than those who do not sleep or do not dream.

Volunteers were asked to learn the layout(布局,設(shè)計) of a 3D computer maze(迷宮) so they could find their way several hours later. Those allowed to take a pap and who also remembered dreaming of the task, found their way to a landmark quicker.

The researchers think the dreams are a sign that unconscious(無意識的) parts of the brain are working hard to process information about the task..

Dr. Robert Stickgold of Harvard Medical School, said dreams may be a marker that the brain is working on the same problem at many levels.

   Study tips

Co-author Dr. Erin Wamsley said the study suggests our non-conscious brain works on the things that it deem(認為) are the most important.

“Every day we are gathering lots of information and new experiences,” she said. “It would seem that our dreams are asking the question, “How do I use this information to inform(影響) my life?”

Cars are lots of fun, but they could also be dangerous. We have to be careful when we drive them or ride in them.

It’s always a good idea to put on your seat belt (安全帶) when you’re in a car. Why? Think about this example: You put an egg on a skateboard and give it a push. If the skateboard hits a stone, it will stop, but the egg won’t. It will fly through the air, hit the ground and break.

Now, think what would happen if you tied the egg to the skateboard. When the skateboard hits a stone, the egg won’t go flying; it will stay safely on the skateboard.

Volvo, a famous Swedish carmaker, was the first to use seat belts in 1849.

Air bags are also very important for car safety, because sometimes a seat belt isn’t enough. If the car is going really fast and runs into something, seat belts could even hurt the people who wear them. Most new cars have air bags in front of and next to the seats. When a car hits something, its air bags will come out quickly in less than one second to keep the people inside safe.

4. Air bags are important for cars because ______.

A.they are made of plastic

B.they can also help us to keep safe in a car
