It was a village in India. The people were poor. However, they were not unhappy. After all, their forefathers had lived in the same way for centuries.
Then one day, some visitors from the city arrived. They told the villagers there were some people elsewhere who liked to eat frog's legs. However, they did not have enough frogs of their own, and so they wanted to buy frogs from other places.
This seemed like money for nothing. There were millions of frogs in the fields around, and they were no use to the villagers. All they had to do was to catch them.Agreement was reached, and the children were sent into the fields to catch frogs.Every week a truck arrived to collect the catch and hand over the money. For the first time, the people were able to dream of a better future. But the dream didn't last long.
The change was hardly noticed at first, but it seemed as if the crops were not doing so well.More worrying was that the children fell ill more often, and, there seemed to be more insects around lately.
The villagers decided that they couldn't just wait to see the crops failing and the children getting weak. They would have to use the money earned to buy pesticides(殺蟲劑)and medicines.Soon there was no money left.
Then the people realized what was happening. It was the frog. They hadn't been useless. They had been doing an important job-eating insects. Now with so many frogs killed, the insects were increasing more rapidly. They were damaging the crops and spreading diseases.
Now, the people are still poor. But in the evenings they sit in the village square and listen to sounds of insects and frogs. These sounds of the night now have a much deeper meaning.
1.We learn from paragraph 1 that the villagers were poor but somewhat satisfied.
2.The villagers agreed to sell frogs because the frogs made too much noise.
3.The cause of the children's sickness was that the visitors brought in the diseases.
4.From the passage, we know the harmony between man and nature is important.

Pruning involves the cutting away of overgrown and unwanted branches, and the inexperienced gardener can be encouraged by the thought that more damage results from doing it unnecessarily than from leaving the tree to grow in its own way. 1
First, pruning may be done to make sure that trees have a desired shape or size. 2 Secondly, pruning may be done to make the tree healthier. 3 The health of a tree may be encouraged by removing the branches that are locking up the centre and so preventing the free movement of air.
One result of pruning is that an open wound is left on the tree and this provides an easy entry for disease, but it is a wound that will heal, 4 .So there is a period when the tree is at risk.It should be the aim of every gardener to reduce the risk and make the area which has been pruned smooth and clean, for healing will be slowed down by roughness. You should allow the cut surface to dry for a few hours and then paint it with one of the substances available from garden shops produced especially for this purpose.Pruning is usually done in winter, for then you can see the shape of the tree clearly without interference(介入)from the leaves and also it is very unlikely that the cuts you make will bleed. 5
A.Pruning means cutting off some of the branches of a tree or bush to make it grow better.
B.You can make something smaller by removing parts that you do not need or want.
C.You may cut diseased or dead wood, or branches that are rubbing against each other and thus cause wounds.
D.Often there is a race between the healing and the disease as to whether the tree will live or die.
E.If this does happen, it is, of course, impossible to paint them properly.
F.The object may be to get a tree of the right height, and at the same time to help the growth of small side branches which will thicken its appearance or give it a special shape.
G.Trees should only be pruned when there is a good and clear reason for doing so and, fortunately, the number of such reasons is small.

Choose the Best Heading(Notice:there is one extra.)
A.Predicting the weather in summer
B.When weather forecasting started
C.Weather forecasting now
D.What a red sky means in the UK
E.A big mistake in forecasting in the UK
F.The spread of the weather forecasting
Weather forecasting as a science is only 150 years old, but who started weather forecasts and how are they different today?
1.________
Robert FitzRoy was an amateur forecaster who started the UK's Meteorology Officers first forecast in August 1861 in the Times newspaper was short but accurate. The first TV forecast in the UK was in 1936, but the biggest change was in the 1950s when they started to use weathermen and women and magnetic sun and clouds to place on the map.Now we have satellite pictures of the weather all over the world.None of this would be possible without Robert Fitzroy.
2.________
But sometimes forecasters get it wrong. There is a very famous case m the UK, where on 15 October 1987 the forecaster predicted that a hurricane in the US would not affect the UK.But the south-east of England then had its worst storm for nearly 300 years.
3.________
Before meteorology, people used common knowledge to predict the weather.‘Red sky at night-shepherd's delight, red sky in the morning; shepherd's warning.’ is a common saying. It is fairly accurate in the UK, because a red sky in the west, where the sun sets, means good weather, but a red sky in the morning means the sun is reflecting off the rain clouds. This means there will probably be rain, which is bad weather for shepherds.
4.________
Several European countries have a saying predicting summer weather. For example in England we say if it rains on St Swithun's Day(15 July)there'll be rain for the next 50 days, but if it is doesn't rain then it'll be dry for the same time.Summer weather patterns start in the first half of July and usually continue for the next few weeks, so this is true about75% of the time.In France they have a similar saying about rain on St.Gervais.day(19 July)and in Germany the weather on 'seven sleepers' day(7 July)predicts the weather for the following seven weeks.
5.________
Nowadays supercomputers receive millions of bits of information about the weather 24 hours a day, but it is still difficult to predict the weather because of the famous ‘butterfly effect’.This means if there is a small change in the air movement in one part of the world, for example a butterfly flapping its wings in China, it might cause a storm in the US.So two and three-day foists are much more reliable than five-day forecasts:those extra few days are enough for the weather to develop in a completely different way.

Here is a question that every person(even you)should think about what you will leave behind when you die."I'm too young to think about that, " you may say.Wrong! Perhaps your mind goes to the 1 assets that you hope to acquire in the future-erhaps a house, a car, or a bank account.Sure, those things may be further down the road, but if you have an email address, own a collection of digital music and movies, use a social networking site, have an online photo album, or write a blog, then you are the proud owner of what is now being called 2 "assets".We all naturally assume that our possession will go to our loved ones when we die, At some point, you'll probably even write a will which states who should inherit what.People are now starting to realize that simply listing our material possessions may not be enough.Researchers at the University of London recently 3 that more and more Britons are now deciding who should get their digital photos, music, videos and so on-the "digital inheritance."
What about passwords to online accounts? Wouldn't this naturally be 4 to your next of kin? Absolutely not! Privacy laws around the world 5 to protect the privacy of the deceased over the desire of the family to retrieve their loved one's personal information.A Ms.Wang of Shenyang, China recently discovered this when she tried to 6 her dead husband's QQ account.Tencent, the operator of QQ, 7 her request based on their terms of use, which states "the right to use an account belongs solely to the 8 applicant, and this right shall not be 9 , loaned, rented, transferred or sold." Since Ms.Wang's husband had not given her his password before his death, she had no foot to stand on.

Do you sweat, chew your pencil, and feel butterflies in your stomach as your teacher hands out a test? A lot of people get upset when it's time to take a test. 1 In fact, sometimes a little stress is a good thing for you.
Here are some tips for taking tests:
● 2 It sounds like a no-brainer(不用動(dòng)腦的事), but if you’re sure of the information, you'll have less reason to be worried.
●Get enough sleep the night before the test. 3 In a scientific study, people who got enough sleep before taking a math test did better than those who stayed up all night studying.
● 4 Once you have the test paper in front of you, read over the entire test, checking out how long it is and all the parts that you are expected to complete. This will allow you to estimate how much time you have for each part and ask the teacher any questions. If something seems unclear before you start, don't worry: ask.
●Relax. 5 Of course you can't get up and move around in the middle of a test, but you can wiggle(扭動(dòng))your fingers and toes, take four or five deep breaths, or picture yourself on a beach or some calm place.
These tips should help most people, but some can get serious test-taking error. If you’re one of them, you may need to talk to a parent or teacher for help.
A.Read the test through first.
B.Be sure you’ve studied properly.
C.Focus on dealing with each question personally.
D.It's natural to feel some stress about taking tests.
E.Your memory will be much better if you’ve had enough rest.
F.As the teacher hands out the test, be sure you know what's expected of you.
G.If you're so nervous that you can't think of anything, you might need a mini-break.

The person behind you constantly kicks the back of your seat.Your talkative seatmate doesn't understand your need for sleep. And the aircraft's bathroom is a total mess. These situations can make even a short flight unbearable.Hopefully you don't cause these unpleasant experiences for others. 1
Always recline(向后傾斜)your seat slowly. There's nothing worse than suddenly being hit in the knees by the seat in front of you.In addition, don't keep your seat reclined for the entire flight.Always keep it upright during mealtimes. And remember to put it in the upright position before going to the restroom(or anytime you leave your seat.)
2 Wait until the meal is done and all the food trays(盤子)have been collected. It's hard for passengers to stand up to let you pass when they still have their food trays. And when using the bathroom.a(chǎn)lways clean up after yourself-the next user will be grateful!
Keep your body-and your possessions-to yourself as much as possible so as not to crowd your in-flight seatmate(s).Share the armrest, especially on a long flight. Also, be careful not to kick or push on the seat in front of you.
While some people enjoy chatting with other passengers during a flight, not everyone does. Some people may want to nap, read or work. 3
If you are traveling with someone and want to chat, keep your voices low. 4 People can still hear through your headphones if the volume is too high.
When exiting the plane, if others are having trouble with their carry-on luggage.help them if you can.If you can't help, wait patiently, and don't push past people to get off the airplane. On your flight, remember the golden rule: 5
A.Don't leave your carry-on in the aircraft.
B.If the conversation seems one-sided, you should notice it.
C.Treat others the way you want to be treated!
D.Avoid going to the bathroom during mealtimes.
E.Instead, you can set an example by following these common airplane courtesies(禮貌).
F.It is not polite to talk loudly in the aircraft.
G.If using electronic gadgets(小裝置),keep the volume down.
