　　Poets, singers and musicians from across the globe gathered in Wales to celebrate the tradition(傳統(tǒng)) of storytelling．

　　“It might seem strange that people still want to listen in age of watching television, but this is an unusual art form whose time has come again,” said David Ambrose, director of Beyond the Border, an international storytelling festival in Wales．

　　“Some of the tales, like those the Inuit from Canada, are thousands years old．So our storytellers have come from distant lands to connect us with the distance of time,” he said early this month．

　　Two Inuit women, both in their mid 60s, are among the few remaining who can do Kntadjait, or throat singing, which has few words and much sound．Their art is governed by the cold of their surroundings, forcing them to say little but listen attentively．

　　Ambrose started the festival in 1993, after several years of working with those reviving(coming back into use or existence)storytelling in Wales．

　　“It came out of a group of people who wanted to reconnect with traditions．And as all the Welsh are storytellers, it was in good hands here，” Ambrose said．

　　As a professional speaker, I speak to tens of thousands of people of all ages from all walks of life．I constantly get feedback(反饋) from those in their 50s, 60s, and 70s, advising me that it is too late for them to create their own destiny．They believe they are too old, too broke, too out of shape, and too tired to do anything about their future．They stubbornly believe achieving prosperity is only for those still in their 20s and 30s．

　　In May 1983, after four years of constant training, Cliff Young shocked the world．At 61 he won the first Sydney-to-Melbourne ultra-marathona distance of 875 kilometers(nearly 545 miles), beating some of the world’s best-conditioned athletes in their 20’s and 30’s!

　　No matter your age and in spite of your current challenges, be more like Cliff Young and take control of your future．Embrace the belief that it is never too late to create your own destiny and achieve prosperity．

　　Daisy’s tail wags back and forth actively as she listens to a story．Though the six-year-old beagle(小獵兔犬) may not be considered a traditional teacher, the dog’s presence has helped children practice their reading skills．The Sandusky Library’s newest program Paws to Read allows children in kindergarten through fifth grade to read their favorite stories to Daisy, one of two Read Therapy Dogs．

　　Morgan Skaff, 9, read a story at the library about Peanuts’ character Snoopy to fellow Daisy．“It’s fun because I like dogs,” said Morgan．

　　Daisy’s owner and trainer Laurie Buchele said it’s easier for children to read to a dog rather than a stranger．“Dogs are nonjudgmental,” Buchele said．“Dogs listen unconditionally and give a lot of attention and don’t care if you mess up a word．”

　　Angela Skaff said her daughters Morgan and Paige, 7, are both good readers, but the therapy dogs could help them get more excited about reading．

　　Julie Brooks, director of the Sandusky Library, brought the program to the library and said developing an excitement for reading was one of the main reasons．“We see it as one of our basic roles to make reading more fun and interesting,” Brooks said．“This is one of the ways kids can relax and enjoy reading．” Brooks said the Read Therapy Dog sessions will be an ongoing activity at the library since it has been so well received．

　　Daisy has had a lot of practice．The fourlegged canine(犬) has been visiting schools and libraries for about four years ever since she was rescued from the Humane Society of Sandusky County．“She gets to hear a lot of dog stories,” Buchele said．“But her favorite thing is…poetry．She’s a strange dog．”

　　Researchers who helped discover a new species of Mexican butterfly are offering to sell the naming rights to raise money to fund more research．

　　Codiscoverer Andrew Warren is hoping to raise at least ＄50,000 by auctioning off(拍賣) the rights to name the 4-inch “owl eye” butterfly, which lives in Sonora, a Mexican state bordering Arizona．

　　“That would support at least two years of research for our team down in Mexico,” Warren said．“Money goes a long way down here in Mexico．”

　　According to the scientific tradition, discoverers of a new species have the right of naming it．In recent years, some discoverers have auctioned off their naming rights to raise money．

　　Warren said the amount being sought for the butterfly isn’t out of the question, noting that naming rights for a new monkey species brought in ＄650,000 two years ago．A group of 10 new fish species that went on the naming auction block at the same time earlier this year brought in a total of ＄2 million．

　　The butterfly discovered by Warren and researcher George Austin ranges as far north as Magdalena de Kino, about 120 miles south of Tucson, but the discovery itself wasn’t made in Mexico．

　　The butterfly was actually in a collection, misidentified(誤認為) as an example of another species, at the McGuire Center for Lepidoptera and Biodiversity at the Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville, said Warren．

　　Warren, a researcher specializing in Mexican butterflies, said fellow McGuire researcher Austin spotted the impostor(錯誤) early this year．They soon began the hard process of determining that it was indeed a “new” model of butterfly．

　　After checking photos and comparing it with other known species, they determined it was a separate species．It’s in the Opsiphanes group, near the morphos and monarch branches on the butterfly section of the tree of life．
