19．SOME teenagers take up smoking during the holidays either because they become"rich"enough to afford a pack of cigarettes or they think they look"cool"．Everyone knows that"smoking is bad for you"，but do smokers really know what the health warnings mean to them？

For Wang Gezhu，a Senior l  girl from Wuxi Furen High School in Jiangsu Province，boys who smoke are less attractive．
"Boys that smoke may think they are cool or impressive，but I think they look weird（怪異的） compared to other ordinary students in my eyes．They only do what others won't risk doing，"Wang said．
Every one wants to impress others，but there are ways to show off other than smoking．
On February 26，around 200students from across the country gathered in Beijing to be awarded for their outstanding performance in the 2004"Sunflower Cup"．The programme included several contests in writing，calligraphy （書法），drawing and painting．It aimed to encourage students to take part in meaningful activities so that they could spend their free time developing healthy habits and hobbies．

16．John Keats was born in 1765in London，the first child born to a poor family．After leaving school，Keats went on to be an apprentice（學(xué)徒） for a surgeon．After his father died in a riding accident，and his mother died of tuberculosis（肺結(jié)核），John and his brothers moved to Hampstead where Keats met Charles Brown who would become a great friend．
Keats had his poems published in the magazines of the day with the encouragement of many friends．Despite the impolite responses towards his early poems，Keats's literary gift prevailed．That same year Keats met Percy Bysshe Shelley who would also become a great friend．When Shelly invited the sick Keats to stay with him and his family in Italy，he refused politely．
In 1818，he traveled to the Lake District of England and on to Ireland and Scotland on a walking tour with Brown．While he was not aware of the seriousness of it，Keats was suffering from the first stage of tuberculosis．His brother Tom died of tuberculosis that year．After that Keats lived with Brown．Around this time Keats fell in love with，and became engaged（訂婚） to eighteen-year-old Fanny Brawne．While their relationship led to much spiritual development for Keats，it also proved to be filled with the highs and lows of first love due to jealousy and stupidity．Many people once believed that Fanny was the cause of his illness，or that she used it as an excuse to try to keep herself away from him．For a while even Keats felt happy with the possibility that he was merely （僅僅） suffering from emotional anxieties-but after suffering a hemorrhage（吐血） he agreed to break their engagement．
