Scientists have recently discovered that mothers tend to hold their baby on the left. Of 255 right-handed mothers, 83% held the baby on the left. And out of 32 left-handed women, 78% held the baby on the left. As a control, women were watched coming from supermarkets carrying baby-sized bags; the bags were held with no side preference.   Then, dental patients were given a large rubber ball to hold during treatment. And it was also noted that the mothers of the group who had held their baby on the left had already had a baby from which they had not been separated after birth.
Left-handed holding enables the baby to hear the heartbeat. In order to discover whether hearing the heart has a beneficial effect on the baby, the sound of a human hear-beat was played to102 babies in a New York nursery for 4 days. A control group of babies was not exposed to hear-beats. The babies in the heart-beat group gained more weight and cried far less than the babies in the control group.

While many young celebrities, especially pretty women, are unwilling to talk about their humble origins, Lu Yan is never too shy to talk about her hometown a small village in northern Jiangxi Province. Surrounded by high mountains, silver stone mining is the major source of wealth in the town where she was born in 1981. When she goes home to visit, she has to take a train from the provincial capital Nanchang for more than an hour, then change to a bus for another hour and a half.  
Lu is the eldest of three siblings. "We broke the family planning policy, because village people always want a son," she said smiling. Lu wears clothes from big-name designers now, but when she was a child she often went several years without new clothes. "I grew tall so fast that my mother thought buying new clothes was wasteful," she said. She had no choice but to wear hand-me-downs from relatives.

Frank Woolworth was born in Rodman, New York., in 1852. His family were very poor farmers, and there was never enough to eat. Frank decided he did not want to be farmer. He took a short business course, and went to work as a salesman in a large city.

School uniforms（制服）are becoming more and more popular across the U.S.A. That’s no surprise，because they offer many benefits. They immediately end the powerful social sorting and labeling （標記）that come from clothing. If all students are dressed in the same way，they will not pay too much attention to their clothing，and some of them will not be laughed at for wearing the “wrong” clothes.

Dealing with School Pressure

Get organized．By becoming more organized, you can reduce your stress level drastically（徹底地）Make a daily schedule of all your activities．Another way to become more organized is by getting your supplies and desk in order．Label folders（文件夾） for each class and arrange your notes and assignment by topic or date so you can easily find information．
Don't procrastinate．Putting off doing your schoolwork will only make you more stressed．If you get an assignment that is due in a month, and you don't have any other assignment to finish, go ahead and begin working on it．

When Denis Hennequin took over as the European boss of McDonald's in January 2004, the world's biggest restaurant chain was showing signs of recovery in America and Australia, but sales in Europe were sluggish or declining．One exception was France, where Mr．Hennequin had done a reliable job as head on the group's French subsidiary（子公式） to sell more Big Macs to his relatives, His task was to copy this success in all 41 of the European countries where anti-globalisers’ favourite enemy operates．
