Once there was a man travelling in a faraway village. As he was passing the elephants, he suddenly stopped. He found that these huge elephants were being held by only a small rope tied to their front leg. No chains(鎖鏈), no cages. As they grow up, they still believe they cannot break away. They believe the rope can hold them, so they never try to break free.”

I never saw my father come home from work late or ill, nor did I ever see my father take a “night out with the boys”. He had no hobbies but just took care of his family.

The morning on Sunday, January 16, 1996, my father telephoned me as usual, this time he had seemed to have forgotten some things we had discussed the week before. I had to get to church, and I cut the conversation short.

The call came at 4:40 am. That day my father was sent to hospital in Florida. I got on a plane immediately, and I vowed(發(fā)誓) that when I arrived, I would make up for the lost time, and have a nice long talk with him and really get to know him.

I arrived in Florida at 1:00 am, but my father had died at 9:12 pm. This time it was he who did not have time to talk, time to wait for me.
