閱讀下面短文,根據(jù)短文內(nèi)容,用英語回答問題。

What are some of your favorite stories? Sometimes music and stories go together. Some songs tell stories. If you’ve sung “Billy Boy”, you’ve sung a story. Sometimes music without words can also seem to tell a story. The sounds can almost make you see pictures in your mind. Some music can make you imagine good people, bad people, singing birds, ships at sea and even the broom’s(笤帚)marching (進(jìn)行曲).

What is brooms marching? That is part of the story told in a famous piece of music for orchestra (管弦樂隊(duì))by a Frenchman named Paul Dukas. The music is called The Sorcerer’s (魔法師的)Apprentice(徒弟).

When you hear the music for The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, you can imagine what’s happening. The quiet-sounding music makes you think of what the sorcerer is doing. Later, when it’s his apprentice’s turn, the music changes into a kind of funny little march, which helps you to imagine how a broom might walk! But then something goes wrong with the apprentice. He can’t make the broom stop! It keeps filling the bucket(桶)with water and bringing it back and watering the floor.

  1. What kind of music can tell us stories?

  2. Who and what can we imagine when we hear music?

  3. Does Paul Dukas make music?

  4. Does the sorcerer practice better or worse than his apprentice?

  5. How does the broom’s marching really sound?

Different countries and different people have different manners. We must find out their customs, so that they will not think us impolite. Here are some examples of things that a person with good manners does or does not do.If you visit a Chinese family you should knock at the door first. When the door opens you will not move before the host says “Come in, please.” After you come into the room you won’t sit down until the host asks you to.When a cup of tea is put on a tea table before you or sent to your hand, you will say “Thank you” and receive it with your two hands, or they will think you are not polite. Before coming into the house in Japan it is good manners to take off your shoes. In European countries, if your shoes become very dirty, this is not done.In a Malay house, a guest never finishes the food on the table. He leaves a little to show that he has had enough. In England, a guest always finishes a drink or the food to show that he has enjoyed it.This will make the host very pleased.

閱讀Fishing Can Be Dangerous

Old Peter liked fishing.Whenever he had any free time he drove into the countryside, found a good place to fish, and spent a few hours fishing. The problem was that most of the best places to fish were on private land, and Peter often had to pull his rod out of the water quickly and run off with it when the owner of the land came along.

One day he was sitting by a river that ran through a rich man's property when he fell asleep.

He was awakened by a voice saying, “You'll never catch anything using that bait.”

Peter looked up and saw a man standing behind him.

“What do you mean?”Peter said.“There's nothing wrong with this bait.I always use it.I've caught thirty fish with it today already.”

“How interesting!” the man said.“Do you know who I am?”

  Peter shook his head.

“I'm the owner of this land.”

  Peter thought very quickly.

“Do you know who I am?” he asked.

Iris sometimes reported that strange objects have been seen high up in the sky. These unknown flying objects (UFOs) have made a lot of people interested. Some of the reports about them are difficult to believe. Some have been explained in scientific ways. Others have never been explained.

It is not easy to decide whether a report is true or not. One report of UFOs came from a British plane on its way from New York to London in 1954. The British plane was flying over an island at 19,000 feet high when the captain noticed that something was on their left and a little lower than their plane. It's about five miles away.

“It was not one object but several,” the captain said. “We saw one large and six smaller objects. I sent out a radio to report about them and I received the answer that the other planes were coming out to meet us. Before the planes arrived, the smaller objects entered the big object. The big object then became smaller and moved away fast.”
