A school teacher once dozed off (打瞌睡) in the classroom while his students were reading. After he woke up, he felt embarrassed(不好意思) and so he told his students a lie, “Just now I dreamt (做夢) about Confucius (孔子), so I kept sleeping for a while.”

The next day, a student followed his example by dozing off during class. The teacher was very angry and, giving him a good lesson with his teaching stick, asked him angrily, “How could you go to sleep in broad day light?”

The student answered quickly, “I dreamt about Confucius just now, so I didn’t dare to wake up.”

The teacher asked him, “If you dream about Confucius, too, then tell me what Confucius told you just now.”

The student had no way but to answer, “He told me that he didn’t meet you yesterday.”
